Plant Combinations: Fabulous Foliage

  2. Plant Combinations: Fabulous Foliage
  • By Kim Toscano

Rich texture and color unite for big impact – even in small spaces – with this foliage-first combination

Bold and bossy meets sleek and sassy! You know what they say, opposites attract. In the garden contrasting forms, textures, or colors combine to create energy and movement. It is contrast that keeps a garden interesting. This combination features ‘Angyo Star’ Fatshedera as a focal point – its broad, variegated leaves juxtaposed against the fine, feathery foliage of ‘Soft Caress’ Mahonia. A mass of ‘Buttered Rum’ Heucherella creates a warm blanket of color with coarse texture echoing that of ‘Angyo Star’. Punctuate the ground layer with tufts of ‘Everest’ EverColor® Carex for added contrast. A backdrop of Mountain Snow™ Pieris provides restful balance along with seasonal blooms.
