Loropetalums and more plants for your deer-resistant garden

While we’re fond of deer, we’re not fond of their destructive habits in the garden. Fortunately, there are many attractive plants in our collection that will enhance your garden’s appeal, and are also deer tolerant or deer resistant. This includes our evergreen loropetalum varieties, which are bred to be right-sized for your yard.

Purple Pixie® Dwarf Weeping Loropetalum grows 1-2 feet high and 4-5 feet wide, and looks great as a groundcover, in containers and in hanging baskets.

Purple Diamond® Semi-dwarf Loropetalum grows 4-6 feet tall and wide. It combines showy flowers and controlled growth.

Purple Daydream® Dwarf Loropetalum spreads nicely into a mound reaching 2-3 feet high by 3-4 feet wide. This versatile petite beauty is also drought tolerant.

These three lovely varieties retain their rich purple hue all year long and offer brilliant pink ribbon blooms in the spring!

Red Diamond™ Midsize Loropetalum grows to 6 feet tall and wide, and boasts the most red blooms of all cultivars. It holds its bold burgundy color all year.

Our green Loropetalum, Emerald Snow® offers leathery, shiny green foliage providing contrast to the vivid purple Loropetalums in the collection. It showcases delicate white fringe flowers in spring and grows to a low-maintenance 4-6 feet tall.

Other plants featured in the Southern Living® Plant Collection considered deer deterrent include:

  • Queen Mum™ Agapanthus
  • Marc Anthony® and Cleopatra™ Liriope
  • ‘Scarlet’s Peak’ Holly
  • Yewtopia® Plum Yew
  • Early Bird™ and Delta Series Crapemyrtles
  • Mountain Snow™ Pieris
