Video:  How to Host A Container Garden Planting Party

We thought this was the sweetest idea—hosting a Mother’s Day Container Garden Party. Invite your mom, your daughter, granddaughter, grandmother, friends—remember we can choose family too, so invite those that mean the most to you!

We hosted one this weekend; watch the video:

The elements are simple, but the joy is priceless!

  1. Schedule the date and mail out invitations as soon as possible. Give moms adequate time to arrange babysitters and child care. Download and print our invitation template.

  2. Choose a theme, and keep things simple. At our garden party, we chose pink and the gardenias -- Scentamazing and Jubilation from Southern Living -- as our point of inspiration. This helps narrow down what plants to have available for moms to compose their container plantings.

  3. Provide a good quality potting soil and a slow release fertilizer; scoops or trowels.

  4. Include ‘BYOC’ or ‘BYOGG’ on the invite if you want guests to bring their own containers or garden gloves. At our party, we provided colorful garden gloves from the dollar store, an inexpensive and fun take-home touch.

  5. Serve healthy food and drinks. A fruit platter with a yogurt-honey dip makes a beautiful presentation. Pastries from the local bakery make prep easy. Herbal tea with no caffeine is a good choice for pregnant moms; mimosas for other guests makes the occasion special.

  6. Take pictures of each mom with their new container garden to document the fun and their creativity.
