DIY: Easter Container Garden

Spring is just around the corner and I could not be happier!

You know what that means? It’s almost time for Easter!

It’s never too early to start prepping your seasonal decor. What better way to embrace the warmth and sunshine of Spring than by decking out your front porch with a cheerful container garden.

I am always on the hunt for a great shade container because most of our front porches have limited sunlight. This container garden incorporates some of my most favorite shade loving plants, along with an iron trellis which gives it a vertical element.

I do love a fern and cast iron planter mixed together, but this combination offers a new solution that will last for several years. In this container garden we used Angyo Star™ Fatshedera which is a trailing vine. It’s a wonderful addition because it is hardy in the cold and flourishes all year round. The best part is the more shade your front porch has; the more variegated the leaves become.

How to create an Easter-inspired container garden:

Step 1: Fill the container with soil. Be sure to leave 2-3 inches of space from the top of the container

Step 2: Place your trellis towards the back of the container. Make sure that it is secure.

Step 3: Remove any ties from the Angyo Star™ Fatshedera and carefully remove the vine from the trellis

Step 4: Plant the Angyo Star towards the back of the container

Step 5: Cut 4-6 pieces of pipe cleaner making each one 4 inches long

Step 6: Place the Angyo Star on the trellis and wrap the pipe cleaner around both the vine and the trellis

Step 7: Next place the ‘Soft Caress’ Mahonia to the left side of the container

Step 8: Add creeping fig in the center of the container

Step 9: Flank the hydrangea on the right side

Step 10 (Optional): To add extra Easter flair, we pre-cut Forsythia branches and placed them in our container. If you choose to incorporate some of your own, place the bottom of the branches directly in the soil.

Now your front porch is ready for Easter, but feel free to continue and dress it up with even more spring container gardens, like this one—the more, the merrier!

Not to mention, more container gardens equal more hiding places for Easter eggs.
