Bring Beauty Indoors

Spring through fall, hydrangeas delight with their abundant showy blooms in pastel hues. These beauties are not only eye-catching in the landscape, but they make a lovely addition to a home’s interior as a cut flower.

Floral arrangements provide a warm welcome to visitors and residents alike. Who wouldn’t want to surround themselves with these beautiful blooms of summer?

With that in mind, following are some simple, fresh ideas for bringing hydrangeas and the popular Encore® Azalea found in many landscapes indoors. The following arrangements star Southern Living® Plant Collection’s ‘Big Daddy’ Hydrangea’s 12-14-inch blooms, but you may substitute Dear Dolores™ Hydrangea, also from the collection, for inspired arrangements later in the season.

1. Create a rustic, candlelit centerpiece.

Step 1: Place three small tins and candles in the chicken feeder

Step 2: Fill the chicken feeder with water, stopping just below the top.

Step 3: Pull apart the large hydrangea blooms and nestle them between the candles. Make sure the bottom stem is completely submerged in water.

Step 4: Fill any extra space with Encore® Azalea blooms and foliage.

You now have the perfect mix of flora and fauna that will look absolutely stunning on any surface in your home!

2. Create an eye-catching floral arrangement.

The inspiration for this next arrangement came from a unique glass vase I found while shopping. For this particular display, the hydrangea leaves should be the focal point. This is ideal for any arrangement because the bloom should always take center stage.

How to get this look:

Step 1: Fill the vase with water

Step 2: Start at one end of the vase, wetting the leaf and pressing it against the glass.

Tip: Wetting the leaf helps it to adhere to the vase.

Step 3: Layer the leaves around the vase. Make sure the stems are all going in the same direction.

Step 4: Float three hydrangea blooms in the vase.

This is such a quick and easy way to give your home extra appeal. It takes little time and adds undeniable charm to any room. Your guests are sure to be smitten!
