Deer tolerant and deer resistant plants
Loropetalums are a wonderful evergreen shrub appropriate for most yards - especially yards with frequent visitors such as deer. The Southern Living® Plant Collection offers three Loropetalums that typically are deer-proof.
Purple Pixie® Weeping Loropetalum grows 1-2 feet high and 4-5 feet wide, and looks great as a groundcover, and in containers and hanging baskets. Purple Diamond® Compact Loropetalum grows 4-5 feet tall and wide. Both of these varieties retain their rich purple hue all year long and offer hot pink blooms in the spring!
Our new green Loropetalum, Emerald Snow™ offers leathery, shiny green foliage that offers a great contrast to the vivid purple Loropetalums in the collection. It blooms delicate white fringe flowers in spring and grows to a low-maintenance 4-5 feet.
All of these Loropetalums are bred to be compact; unlike traditional varieties.
There are a variety of other plants showcased in the Southern Living® Plant Collection that are also deterrent to deer.
These include:
- Princess Blush Verbena
- Queen Mum Agapanthus
- Little Black Magic Dwarf Elephant Ear
- Orange Blossom Special Dwarf Pomegranate
- White Crinum Lily
- Pink Crinum Lily
- Marc Anthony and Cleopatra Liriope
- Scarlet’s Peak Holly
- Yewtopia Plum Yew
- Early Bird and Delta Jazz Crapemyrtles
- Mountain Snow Pieris
